Roy Makaay left Rangers earlier this season but has landed on his feet by securing a move to Germany with Bayern Munich.

Makaay was a fascinating addition to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s coaching staff at Rangers.

Makaay and Van Bronckhorst knew each other well from Feyenoord and their time with the Dutch national team.

After coaching with the Rotterdam club, Makaay headed to Ibrox to serve as first-team coach under Van Bronckhorst.

A legend in his playing days with Deportivo La Coruna and Bayern Munich, Makaay was a big-name addition to the Rangers staff.

Things didn’t quite work out for Van Bronckhorst and when he was sacked in November, Makaay left with him.

Van Bronckhorst is yet to return to football but Makaay has now landed himself a new job.

Roy Makaay returns to Bayern Munich

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have had a chaotic few days having sacked Julian Nagelsmann and appointed Thomas Tuchel.

It may have gone under the radar, but Bayern have also confirmed the appointment of Makaay into an intriguing role.

Bayern have a project called the ‘FC Bayern World Squad’ and have been running this with Volkswagen since 2021.

The project allows Under-19 players from all over the globe an opportunity to earn a deal with Bayern.

Makaay has now been appointed as the new manager of this setup and will have a key role in trying to unearth talents for Bayern.

Nigerian talent Daniel Francis was one success story from 2022 and having signed a deal with Bayern, he is now out on loan with Austria Klagenfurt.

It’s now over to Makaay to try and find similar prospects who can become professionals in the future.

Makaay’s history at Bayern is certainly a factor here but he will now look to bounce back from his Rangers exit by helping the Bavarian giants for years to come.
