Ross McCrorie looks to have established himself as the Scotland captain but the Rangers centre back come midfielder couldn’t prevent the young Scots being beaten by the Auld Enemy.
Scotland fell fowl to a 2-0 defeat to the English in Euro U21 qualifying for 2019. The two goals took pace at Tynecastle but were made in London and Liverpool.
Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson scored a free kick around the hour mark before Everton’s Kieran Dowell screwed in the second in injury time.
The young Scots battled hard but the added English quality won the day. England had the likes of Tammy Abraham, Dominic Solanke and Ryan Sessegnon turn out for Aiden Boothroyd’s team.
It will be a learning curve for all of the young players involved. McCrorie included.
Scot Gemmill’s Scotland had already missed out on qualification to the tournament whilst England finish the group unbeaten.
Ross McCrorie not the only Rangers rep in Scotland U21s
Ross McCrorie wasn’t the only player with a Rangers connection to play tonight. The Scotland U21 skipper plays a key role for the young Scots but Glenn Middleton was very bright from the bench.
The young Rangers winger is only 18 but he looks very capable of going on to be a star for club and country.
Former Ranger Billy Gilmour also started with the now-Chelsea academy player picking up a yellow card.
Ross McCrorie played the full 90 minutes and also picked up a yellow.
Scotland may have fell to defeat but for McCrorie and all the other youngsters involved it is another learning experience against a very good side.
