Hibs star Martin Boyle has signed a new contract at Easter Road after a suggestion from ex-Rangers player Kevin Kyle about the player replacing Ryan Kent at Ibrox.
The talented Australian international has been on bright form at the start of the season and the 27-year-old signs a new deal which will keep him in Edinburgh until 2023.
Rangers winger Ryan Kent has been linked with a move to Premier League Leeds United with Gers boss Steven Gerrard claiming they’ve rejected a bid for the talented winger.
Kent has emerged as the main man for Rangers this season and much of the club’s title hopes hang around getting the most from the ex-Liverpool starlet.
Kent is also known to be settled in Glasgow and have no intention of moving, with Gerrard strongly opposing the notion the player could move on.
But with Leeds said to be preparing a £14m move for the winger, talk has moved on to potential replacements should they make the Gers and offer they can’t refuse.
Ex-Rangers striker Kevin Kyle claimed the Ibrox club should look no further than the on-form Hibs star.
“I think Kent, he could be replaced by a (Martin Boyle, of Hibernian),” Kyle told Open Goal.
“What do you want in a winger? You want somebody to get at the full-backs. Martin Boyle does that week in, week out, so why not?
“I think he would be a very cheap replacement and I think we would get just as much quality. People might disagree with that.
“I’m not saying he’s at the same level (as Kent). What I’m saying is, we’re in the Scottish game.
“If Martin Boyle is ripping it up for Hibs against most teams, week in, week out, in the Premier League playing with Rangers, Martin Boyle should be able to do the same.
“Maybe with a bit more quality because he’s surrounded by a bit more quality. In terms of the league he’s in, Martin Boyle would be able to a job for any of the teams, I would think.”
