St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson has left the door open for Rangers winger Glenn Middleton to return to Perth after the Gers knocked back an initial approach.
Speaking after a successful six months at McDiarmid Park where Middleton contributed to a double cup success, Davidson was glowing in his interpretation of the youngster’s impact at the club.

However, Davidson would reveal that Rangers intend to keep Glenn around for pre-season training to see how the youngster has progressed after a spell with the Scottish Premiership club.
Not that this has Davidson worried – should Rangers seek to retain the 21-year-old’s services next season the talented gaffer is sure Steven Gerrard will give the club another of their top talents.
“Glenn wasn’t getting first-team football at Rangers and he wanted to prove himself,” said Davidson [Courier]. “All credit to him for doing that.
“He stepped up and scored some crucial goals for us.
“I do believe that if Glenn has a full season with someone and plays a lot of games he’ll go on to do great things and push for a place in the Scotland squad.
“I’ve spoken to Rangers, who have been brilliant. They’ve been really honest with me.
“They want him to go back there and they’ll assess how he’s getting on.
“It’s definitely not one I’d shut the door on.
“We’ve got a good relationship with Rangers and hopefully, if it isn’t Glenn, it will maybe be somebody else.”
Middleton has enjoyed an up and down Rangers career ever since breaking into the squad as a teenager under Steven Gerrard in 2018.
The winger would play an impressive 29 times in his first professional footballing season, scoring five goals and laying on another five, as he burst onto the scene at Ibrox.
Indifferent form and increased competition saw Middleton fall to the fringes and an unsuccessful loan spell at Hibs would follow the season after.
But following his six-month stint at St Johnstone, Middleton is a player renewed and the winger himself has spoken openly about the success of his time in Perth.
