Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has sarcastically responded to claims from Rangers manager Steven Gerrard that a swap deal for attacker Scott Wright could be a possibility.

Gers boss Gerrard fielded questions about the club’s interest in Scott Wright and confirmed that a pre-contract deal is “extremely close”.

However, Gerrard also claimed that getting the deal done this January would be a “bonus” as he claimed there were a number of potential options to getting the deal done.

One of these included a potential swap deal with the likes of Greg Stewart mentioned in the press as a potential makeweight.

But whatever the case, McInnes saw the funny said as he joked that if a swap was on the table, he’d happily take Ryan Kent or Alfredo Morelos off our hands.

“Aye, [I’d swap] Kent and Morelos!” joked McInnes [PA].

“Listen there has been discussions right across the board about how a good deal would look for Aberdeen & obviously for Rangers.

“Whether it’s players involved or a fee, these are for the board to sort out. We’ll see what that looks like come the end of the window.

“Rangers or any other club can do a pre-contract with Scott at any time but from our point of view, Scott is an important part of the team and we don’t want to lose important players at this stage of season when we’ve still got so much to play for.

“We want to improve as we go along & need as many good players as we can. It’s not in our interests to lose Scott but if we do, it’s got to be good deal.”

Whilst McInnes might have been clear here that he wants to keep Wright around the Dons boss has previously praised Rangers’ conduct regarding the player.

McInnes publicly praised Steven Gerrard for coming in the “front door” with a view to moving for Wright.
