Reports linking Rangers with a £4.6m move for Rapid Vienna’s Greek international striker Taxiarchas Fountas have been rubbished in the Scottish press.

The Scottish Sun are claiming that the 25-year-old “isn’t on the Ibrox club’s radar” after the Gers snapped up strikers Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten earlier in the transfer window.

Rangers reportedly splashed out a combined £6m to take diminutive forward Roofe (£3.5m) and Swiss international Itten (£2.5m) to the club.

Including Colombian firebrand Alfredo Morelos and veteran striker Jermain Defoe the Ibrox side now have four striking options in their squad for this campaign.

According to Greek media outlet Sport 24, Rangers were set to rival Serie A side Atalanta and Bundesliga Stuttgart for the player’s signature.

Fountas, 25, started his career at AEK Athens and joined Rapid Vienna in 2019, going on to net 20 goals and lay on seven assists in 29 games for the club last season.

The striker has started this season in Austria in a similar vein of form, hitting five goals in five games, with the Austrian report claiming it would take £4.6m (€5m) to sign the player.

However, according to the Sun, Rangers will not be moving for the player as they look ahead to the rest of the transfer window.

Meanwhile, star man Alfredo Morelos has reportedly been the subject of an £18.3m (€20m) bid from French side Lille according to dubious comments from a journalist in his home country.
