Reported Ross Wilson January Rangers target nets pre-season hattrick

Once Rangers-linked Hearts left-back Stephen Kingsley has started the club’s pre-season in explosive form with a hattrick in the 7-0 mauling of League One East Fife.

Versatile defender Kinglsey netted three goals in the Tynecastle club’s second friendly of pre-season as they swept the Fifers aside in Methil.

The 27-year-old netted a trademark long-range strike to open his account on the day with a header and a penalty securing the match ball on East Fife hero Kevin Smith’s testimonial.

Alex Cochrane, Finlay Pollock, Alan Forrest and an unnamed Trialist got the other goals for Scotland’s third force as they gear up for a European campaign next season.

Rangers linked to Hearts Stephen Kingsley in January

Heads were turned when Rangers were linked to Stephen Kingsley last season as reports suggested the Ibrox side were considering a move for the full-back.

According to ESPN commentator Mark Donaldson, Rangers considered a move for Stephen Kingsley in January with the player having a personal relationship with sporting director Ross Wilson.

However, this interest ended when the player signed a new three year contract in Edinburgh.

“He is close friends with Ross Wilson at Rangers, they know each other from their days at Falkirk,” said Donaldson [Scarves Around the Funnel].

“That was something that was discussed, I’m led to believe, at Ibrox.

“It might’ve been a down the road thing if he wasn’t going to sign a new deal or whatever.”

Also a capable centre-back, Kingsley is a set-piece specialist and has a mean left-foot which adds an extra dimension to the player’s game.

The versatility of Stephen Kingsley also makes the player suitable for a back three, something Giovanni van Bronckhorst may well experiment with this season.

Rangers did move for Hearts defender John Souttar on a pre-contract deal in January but failed to secure him on a permanent contract for the second half of the season.

Now the Scotland defender is officially at Ibrox whilst Stephen Kingsley will likely be lining up for Hearts against Rangers next season.

Meanwhile, one Rangers star has officially left the club after a Premier League club announced their latest deal.
