Reported Rangers target Kenny McLean played his part in a 7-0 Championship demolition with current side Norwich as the Scotland international helped rip Huddersfield Town apart.
The Championship league leaders are set for an instant return to the Premier League and their explosive front line destroyed Town to set up a promotion showdown this weekend.
Former Celtic striker Teemu Pukki netted a hattrick, whilst Emi Buendia, Todd Cantwell, Kieran Dowell, and Jordan Hugill rounded off the scoring.
Should the Canaries defeat Derby County – a club at which Rangers star George Edmundson is currently on loan – and other results go their way at the weekend, they will be the first Championship side to gain promotion this season.
McLean, 29, is a boyhood bluenose and has been routinely linked with Ibrox throughout his career, with the most recent links coming just before the last transfer window [Scottish Sun].
But with a return to the Premier League on the horizon – and the £170m cash boost it reportedly provides – any prospective move for the midfielder could be made infinitely harder.
After a spell out of the side in mid-season, McLean has now started Norwich’s last 13 Championship games and he is considered a key part of Daniel Farke’s side.
The Rangers-linked midfielder played 70 minutes in Norwich’s 7-0 demolition of Championship rivals Huddersfield and should Norwich go back up to the Premier League, McLean’s experience could be invaluable.
It’s not clear if Rangers retain an interest in his services but with Norwich on the verge of Championship success snaring the Scotland star just got a whole lot more difficult.
McLean isn’t the only midfielder reportedly catching the eye at Rangers with one Man United star also said to be on the club’s radar.
