Reported January Rangers target Kenny McLean has been promoted to the English Premier League with Norwich City – despite his side losing 3-1 to Bournemouth this weekend.
The Scotland international midfielder – and former Rangers youth – has been routinely linked to Ibrox throughout his career and ahead of the winter window was mentioned alongside the Gers.
The Sun made the claim in November and this has fuelled speculation ever since but the fact Norwich will be back in the English top tier next season will cast doubts on any reported interest being reignited.
McLean, 29, played an increasingly influential role in the side’s drive for promotion and started as 10-man Norwich were beaten comfortably by the Cherries at Carrow Road.
But despite the defeat Norwich were promoted back to the Premier League at the first time of asking courtesy of Brentford’s goalless draw with Millwall and Swansea’s 2-2 clash with Wycombe.
Promotion to the Premier League is quite simply huge for Daniel Farke’s side and the club itself, with some reports suggesting the achievement is worth north of £170m [Consultancy].
The Bournemouth defeat was McLean’s 15th straight start for the side in the English Championship and the midfielder is also contracted to the Canaries until 2023 [Canaries].
McLean has spoken about the perennial links to Ibrox before and even rubbished claims that Rangers offered him a contract prior to him leaving Aberdeen for Norwich in 2018.
