Reports linking Rangers to Eamonn Brophy have resurfaced this week after the Kilmarnock striker was linked to Preston North End.
The Daily Mail namechecked the Ibrox club as they suggested Alex Neil’s side are looking at the Rugby Park forward ahead of the January transfer window.
Championship high-flyers Preston have a real shot at the promotion playoffs this year and Brophy could well be enticed by the prospect of Premier League football next season.
A former Celtic youth, Brophy was first linked to Rangers back in May [TEAMtalk] but as of yet nothing concrete has come of the reported interest.
Rangers are currently well stocked up front between Colombian forward Alfredo Morelos and English veteran Jermain Defoe.
But lingering doubts remain over the squad’s ability to cope should either of them be injured between now and the end of the season.
However, there are also doubts over Brophy’s suitability for Ibrox and his off-colour goalscoring form this season.
Whilst the striker is a notoriously hardworking player, the 23-year-old’s four goals in 20 appearances for Kilmarnock will hardly fill the Ibrox legions with confidence.
Now a full Scotland international, Brophy’s performances perhaps merit interest from clubs at a higher level than Kilmarnock.
But whether that justifies interest from Rangers or not remains to be seen.
