Reported Rangers target John Lundstram played in and scored for Premier League Sheffield United amid a contract wrangle which the Ibrox club was reportedly hoping to take advantage of.
The Premier League midfielder started the Blades’ friendly match with Preston North End and scored the opener in the 2-2 draw.
A box-to-box midfielder who is a powerful runner with an eye for goal, Lundstram fits the profile of the kind of player Rangers are looking to add to their squad in this transfer window.
The Athletic had linked Rangers to the midfielder and claimed the Gers were monitoring the player’s contract situation alongside a host of other Premier League clubs.
With Liverpudlian Lundstram entering the final year of his contract, the same report claims a contract offer is on the table at Bramall Road.
The suggestion is that if Lundstram doesn’t commit to Sheffield United the club will consider offers for the player in this window, with the likes of Brighton and West Ham also hovering.
A product of Everton’s youth academy, Lundstram impressed for Sheffield United last season, scoring five goals and laying on three assists in 26 starts.
The Blades also managed an impressive 9th place finish after earning promotion to the English Premier League only the season before last.
The Sheffield Star has also linked Burnley to the midfielder who has stiff competition in the United midfield with ex-Rangers man John Fleck and £22m January signing Sander Berge.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has also admitted his intentions to bulk up the Gers midfield with the former England captain determined to add to the Ibrox “engine room”.
