Portuguese side SC Braga are interested in signing one-time reported Rangers target and north African striker Mostafa Mohamed ahead of the transfer window closing.
The Egyptian forward was linked with a move to Rangers earlier in the year with claims that the Ibrox club submitted a loan bid for the Zamalek player in January [Daily Record].
These were described as “absolute nonsense” by club insider Four Lads Had a Dream despite the Egyptian club’s boss claiming Steven Gerrard inquired about Mohamed personally.
“Steven Gerrard called me personally to ask about Mostafa Mohamed. He wanted to know what he was like as a player and at training,” said Milutin Sredojevic [Daily Record].
“But Zamalek made it very difficult for the transfer to go through because they don’t want to looked at as a selling club.
“So the transfer never happened, but Steven Gerrard was very keen indeed for the move to go through.
“Mostafa is a player with a bright future. He is an incredible talent who will of course go to Europe one day soon.”
But now France Football are reporting that last season’s Europa League rivals Braga are weighing up a move for the player.
That report claims that if Braga’s current main striker Paulinho moves to Primeira Liga rivals Sporting Lisbon then they will move for the 22-year-old forward.
France Football believe that Braga could offer anywhere between €3.5m (£3.2m) and €4.5m (£4.1m) for the player should Paulinho complete a move across the country.
They also claim that Turkish giants Fenerbahce had a move for the player turned down earlier in the window, with the Super Lig club said to have offered €3m (£2.7m) for the player.
