Rangers flop Carlos Pena has found a new club in El Salvador as he signs a deal with Premier Division side Club Deportivo – the sixth side he has played for since he last turned out for Rangers.

The Mexican midfielder, 30, has been without a club since tearing up his contract at Veracruzano with breakaway Mexican league Liga del Balompie Mexicano on the verge of collapse.

Pena – a Mexican international who earned the nickname Gullit due to his apparent similarities in playing style to Dutch legend Ruud – has seen his career flop due to well-publicised off-field issues.

The midfielder earned a reported £2.2m move to Ibrox under the nightmare reign of Portuguese flop Pedro Caixinha [Daily Mail], who is also said to have given the midfielder a £25k per week deal.

Pena would fail to settle in Glasgow and alongside fellow Mexican forward Eduardo Herrera, became the symbol of Caixinha’s expensive and ill-fated reign in Glasgow.

After loan spells back in Mexico with the likes Nexaca and Cruz Azul, Pena negotiated a release from his contract in January 2019 before signing with Polish outfit GKS Tychy.

Another unmitigated disaster, Pena would leave the Polish second division club without playing a game before returning to Central America, firstly with Club de Fútbol Correcaminos and then Veracruzano.

Club Deportivo will be hoping the midfielder can resurrect his career in El Salvador but being deadly honest, his track record suggests this will be another expensive waste of money for yet another football club.

Here’s more on his payment dispute with his last club as this tedious time-waster continues to infuriate around his home continent.
