There have been “no developments” in Rangers’ high-profile January move for Aberdeen forward Scott Wright as the club try to secure the player on a pre-contract deal.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard admitted before the match with Motherwell that the Ibrox club were “extremely close” to agreeing a deal with Wright and that signing him in January would be a “bonus” [Rangers].

However, as the Glasgow Times rubbished two high-profile transfers links to Ibrox in Preston’s Ben Davies and Airdrie’s Thomas Robert they also revealed that there has been no development in the deal.

They do however keep the option of a move to Ibrox this month open as Rangers reportedly look for a variety of creative solutions to getting 23-year-old Wright in the door this month [Glasgow Times].

Earlier reports had suggested that a swap deal could be a potential solution – with Greg Stewart mooted as a potential makeweight – whilst any fee involving the future transfer of Ross McCrorie to Pittodrie could be altered to secure the move.

Scott Wright is one of a number of names being linked to Ibrox this January but the club are eager to pushback any incorrect links in the press.

So far the Gers have rejected three high-profile links in this window as the Ibrox club look to clamp down on falsified transfer reports in the media.
