A Daily Record report suggests wealthy Asia-based businessman, Stuart Gibson, is perhaps not as close to pouring millions of pounds into Rangers as first thought.
It’s been suggested that a deal has been in the pipeline for some time and that an announcement was planned for some time before the end of March [Scottish Sun], with the club looking to benefit from an immediate injection of funds.

However, while there is still hope that something will be in place in a few weeks, the comments of a source speaking to the Daily Record suggest that discussions are not yet at an advanced stage.
“Stuart thinks it’s still a bit premature to make any official statement,” said the source. “He’s considering investing in the club but he has not been in talks regarding taking over the club from Dave King. He’s just a well-meaning fan trying to support the club.”
“In the meantime, Stuart will continue to focus on his business in Asia.”
The update tallies with Dave King’s comments earlier in the week in which he denied that he or any existing shareholders would be selling shares [Express].

Verdict
If this source is to be believed, there are greater priorities for Gibson at this moment in time than his investing in Rangers, which is something he is still ‘considering’ rather than set on.
That suggests that some patience may be required on the part of Bears who are eager to see more funds injected into the club.
The board will likely be keen to progress any potential deal as soon as possible, though, given the indefinite postponement of the Scottish game as a result of the global health pandemic.
Huge sums of money will be lost in the coming weeks and months if no games can be played, so bringing Gibson on board would offer greater financial security amid uncertain times.
