A Scottish newspaper has refuted claims that Rangers rejected an £8m (€9m) bid for star full-back Borna Barisic from Premier League Leeds United.
A report from Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti claimed that Marcelo Bielsa’s side had the offer rejected earlier in the transfer window amid reports of their interest [Football Insider].
However, the Daily Record are now claiming that Rangers didn’t reject a bid for the player at all and that Barisic remains committed to Rangers.
The report also claims that Rangers wouldn’t even consider accepting less than double the £8m quoted such is his importance to the Ibrox side.
Barisic has emerged as one of the leading talents in Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side getting three assists and netting once from left-back in six games this season.
Currently on international duty with Croatia, the news that Barisic’s ability and importance to Rangers would command at least £16m will be music to the ears of Gers fans.
It is the second Rangers player for whom Leeds have reportedly expressed an interest this season but the Elland Road club officially had a bid rejected for tricky winger Ryan Kent.
Similarly to Borna Barisic, Kent is a key Rangers asset and Leeds’ reported bid of £10m was “strongly rejected” by the Gers.
Borna Barisic, 27, signed a new contract at Rangers last season and has spoken previously about how committed to the cause he is at Ibrox.
The former NK Osijek talked up life at Rangers after being part of the record-breaking defence who’ve started the season with six straight clean sheets [Glasgow Times].
