Rangers have made contact to try and sign LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes – but a move to Ibrox isn’t looking likely amid Premier League interest.
The Gers have been heavily linked with Cifuentes this week.
MLS insider Tom Bogert was first on the story, claiming on Twitter earlier this week that Rangers were battling Leeds United and Espanyol in the race for Cifuentes.
Football Insider now claim that Rangers have made contact to try and sign Cifuentes.
However, a move to Ibrox is now considered ‘unlikely’.
Rangers are allegedly doubtful that they can match offers from the likes of Leeds and Espanyol and a Premier League move may well be on the cards.
That’s hard for Rangers to compete with and it seems the Gers aren’t feeling too confident about their push to sign the Ecuador ace.

Rangers are identifying the right profiles amid Jose Cifuentes chase
This one may not come off but Rangers fans can feel encouraged by the recent transfer approach.
Cifuentes is an ascending talent who has already impressed with plenty of football under his belt at 24.
Cifuentes will be out of contract in December and that seems to be the Rangers approach now; young, talented, accustomed to men’s football and potentially available for a bargain.
That seemed to be how Rangers approached the January window too, snapping up Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin.
The early signs from those two players are very good and Rangers could be focusing on players of this ilk for the summer.
Cifuentes could end up elsewhere but all Rangers can do is make him an offer and attempt to sell him on a move to Glasgow.
As long as Rangers continue to find ascending talent at reasonable prices, fans will certainly get behind the recruitment strategy.
