Rangers appear to have shelved their interest in Jack Butland as they instead focus on bringing in a goalkeeper from abroad.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Rangers registered an interest in signing Butland last week.
The Crystal Palace goalkeeper is on loan at Manchester United but isn’t expected to stay at Old Trafford for next season.
Rangers seemingly explored a move for the 30-year-old, but budget limitations have forced the Gers to look further afield.
Butland is out of contract this summer but Palace can extend the deal by another year and command a fee for the stopper.
Barring a change of events, it looks like Rangers will be looking away from Butland as they chase a new stopper this summer.

Who could Rangers target if not Jack Butland?
Rangers will surely sign a new goalkeeper this summer with Allan McGregor now into his 40’s and surely coming to the end at Ibrox.
The Gers have been linked with the likes of Angus Gunn, Freddie Woodman and now Butland but appear to prefer an option abroad.
One name that stands out is Rakow goalkeeper Vladan Kovacevic.
Reports from The Herald last summer suggested that Rangers had been eyeing up Kovacevic as a possible signing.
The 25-year-old ended up staying in Poland and now sits top of the Ekstraklasa table with Rakow.
A Bosnian-born stopper who has now chosen to play for Serbia, Kovacevic may still be on the Rangers radar for this summer.

Michael Beale has talked up wanting to sign players he already knows and Kamil Grabara fits that bill.
The pair worked together at Liverpool and Grabara has now become the number one goalkeeper at FC Copenhagen in Denmark.
It may be difficult to afford the Pole after he cost £3million in 2021 but he would certainly fit the criteria.
One other name we will throw in is Mile Svilar from Roma; Beale visited the Italian capital last week and Svilar could make sense.
The former Anderlecht and Benfica talent is a backup goalkeeper at Roma but could be given a starting role with a move to Rangers.
We’re sure fans will have plenty of ideas and theories themselves too, as Rangers look overseas to land a new stopper.
