Rangers are showing a keen interest in signing Arsenal defender Auston Trusty and hope to get him signed up for around £2million.

That is according to a new report from the Daily Mail, who claim that Rangers have identified Trusty as a key target.

It’s stated that Rangers are now keen to get a deal done to sign Trusty from Arsenal for around £2million.

Trusty has spent the season on loan at Birmingham City, who may yet be keen to sign him permanently as hedge fund manager Tom Wagner invests in the club.

Rangers would surely back themselves to win this race though and may see Trusty as competition for Ben Davies.

Filip Helander is moving on this summer and Rangers need another left-footed centre back to challenge Davies.

Trusty fits the bill and Rangers could now make a real push to bring the American to Ibrox.

Who is Rangers target Auston Trusty?

Trusty was born in Pennsylvania and came through the ranks of Philadelphia Union as a teenager.

The centre back turned out for Bethlehem Steel in 2016 before heading back to the Union, where he made 62 first-team appearances.

Trusty was traded to the Colorado Rapids in 2019 though and he earned himself a stunning move just last year.

Arsenal pounced to sign Trusty in a shock deal, with Stan Kroenke – who owns both Arsenal and the Rapids – seemingly key.

After being loaned back to Colorado, Trusty was given a chance in English football as he joined Birmingham on loan for the season.

A 6ft 3in defender, Trusty has managed four goals this season and was voted as the Birmingham Supporters’ Player of the Season just last week.

Hailed as ‘incredible’ by Birmingham teammate George Friend, Trusty has enjoyed an outstanding season in the Championship.

Trusty has even earned his first USA cap this season and more are likely to come in the near future.

Now seemingly wanted at Rangers, Trusty could follow the likes of Maurice Edu, DaMarcus Beasley, Carlos Bocanegra, Gedion Zelalem, Emerson Hyndman, Matt Polster, James Sands and Malik Tillman in being an American representing the Gers.
