Rangers chose not to appoint Luis Castro and he is now nearing a move to become Cristiano Ronaldo’s new manager at Al-Nassr.

Michael Beale seemingly wasn’t the only name in the mix for the Rangers job back in November.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was given his marching orders and a couple of names were rumoured before Beale landed the job.

Francesco Farioli was thought to be keen on the job and Rangers did meet with the Italian.

Another surprise name in the frame was Luis Castro, at least according to reports over in Brazil.

Goal Brasil reported that Rangers were showing a real interest in landing Botafogo boss Castro.

Rangers allegedly identified Castro as a top alternative if they couldn’t secure Beale’s services.

Flamengo were also interested but Castro ended up staying at Botafogo.

Whether the Rangers rumours were true or just trying to force Flamengo’s hand is unclear, but Castro is now nearing a big move…

Saudi Arabian football is all over the news right now with a number of big-name players heading to the Middle East.

Al-Nassr got the ball rolling by signing Cristiano Ronaldo and are now chasing deals for Marcelo Brozovic and Hakim Ziyech too.

Manager Rudi Garcia has moved on to Napoli and Al-Nassr are now chasing a new manager.

Foot Mercato now claim that Cristiano Ronaldo has had his say, recommending a move for his Portuguese compatriot Castro.

Al-Nassr are now seemingly making their move with Castro in line for a huge payday.

The 61-year-old spent most of his managerial career in Portugal before heading to Shakhtar Donetsk in 2019.

After a spell in Qatar with Al-Duhail, Castro now looks to be in line for a return to the Middle East with Al-Nassr.

That’s quite different from the prospect of managing Rangers but Castro may well jump at the chance to make the biggest move of his career – and try to justify Cristiano’s recommendation.
