Rangers are planning a meeting with Graeme Souness over a return to Ibrox having already held initial talks.
That is according to The Sun, who claim that Rangers are keen to give Souness a job at Ibrox.
The Scot has left his role as a pundit for Sky Sports and Rangers are now looking to give him a job in football.
It’s unclear just what role Souness would be taking on but Rangers did lose director of football Ross Wilson to Nottingham Forest in April.
Michael Beale has been taking the lead on recruitment since Wilson’s exit and it’s unclear how long that arrangement will last.
Throwing Souness into a director of football role would be bold but he is understood to only want a return to Rangers one one condition.
Souness wants the role to be ‘worthwhile and meaningful’, seemingly not wanting to just come back to Rangers in a token job.
Souness is based on the South Coast of England now but would allegedly love to return to Rangers regularly if he was making a real difference.
Tongues were wagging in May when Souness met with Rangers figures as everything from a recruitment role to a position in a takeover consortium were suggested.

However, chief executive James Bisgrove suggested that Rangers hoped Souness would be interested in an ambassadorial role moving forward.
Is that really the difference-making role Souness wants? That’s really up for debate but Souness certainly has Rangers at heart.
Souness was appointed as Rangers player-manager back in 1986 having finished up in Italy with Sampdoria.
Souness spent five years at Rangers, playing 73 games whilst winning two league titles and three Scottish League Cups.
Now 70, Souness could be in line for an emotional return to Rangers, but he will have to weigh up whether the role is big enough.
