Rangers are on the verge of signing Norwich City playmaker Kieran Dowell with a three-year deal now set for completion.
The Gers are looking to get business done early this summer and goalkeeper Jack Butland has been heavily linked.
Dowell may be the first man in though as the Daily Record claim that a free transfer is imminent.
It’s stated that Dowell will pen a three-year deal with Rangers upon the expiration of Norwich City contract this summer.
The report claims that Dowell has already met up with Rangers boss Michael Beale to discuss the move to Glasgow.
The former Everton man is allegedly keen to join Beale’s revolution at Ibrox with a number of signings expected this summer.
Dowell is even claimed to have passed a medical with Rangers as Beale strikes for an early signing.
Who is Rangers-bound Kieran Dowell?
Dowell was born in Ormskirk and was snapped up by Everton at the age of just seven.
The midfielder made his way up through the Everton ranks and was long tipped for a bright future at Goodison Park.
Dowell did manage five first-team appearances for Everton but breaking through proved very difficult.
Loans to Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Derby County and Wigan Athletic didn’t push Dowell any closer and he was sold to Norwich City for an undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old has played 75 times for Norwich, bagging 12 goals and six assists for the Canaries.
This would mean Rangers are signing another creative player from Norwich after landing Todd Cantwell in January.
Dowell and Cantwell played 24 times together at Norwich, losing just four times whilst winning 14.
Dowell has mostly played as a number 10 in his career and has a great left foot, but has also operated out wide.
Hailed as ‘outstanding’ by former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder, Dowell has shown his quality in patches but has yet to really put it all together a long period of time.
This could still be a real bargain for Rangers and Beale will be delighted if Dowell does become his first summer signing.
