Report: Manager linked with Rangers before Beale appointment now in contact with Everton

Manager Luis Castro was linked with Rangers just a few months ago but could now head to England with Everton.

Rangers seemed to focus in on Michael Beale as their top target as soon as Giovanni van Bronckhorst was let go.

Steven Gerrard’s former assistant understood the expectation levels at Ibrox and, despite only managing for a few months QPR, Rangers pounced.

The move is going well so far and few Rangers fans would be looking to replace Beale any time soon.

Still, other managers were linked with the Rangers hot seat – and one rumour was more surprising than most.

Goal Brasil reported in November that that Rangers showed an interest in landing Botafogo boss Luis Castro.

It was claimed that Castro had been picked out as a top alternative to Beale if a move for him collapsed.

Flamengo also wanted Castro and it felt like Rangers were being used in the Brazilian media to force their hand a little.

Castro ended up staying at Botafogo though and now finds himself in contention for a major job in England.

Everton eyeing up Luis Castro

The Daily Record’s Duncan Castles reports that Everton are interested in appointing Castro as their new boss.

Sean Dyche was only appointed in January but his long-term future is already in some doubt.

The Toffees need a result against Bournemouth today in order to fully secure their Premier League status.

Whether Everton stay up or not, Dyche could be in danger of losing his job with Castro now wanted.

Initial contact with the Portuguese coach is understood to have been made with Castro potentially in line for a move to Goodison Park.

That means Castro could end up managing former Rangers right back Nathan Patterson whilst current Gers wide man Ryan Kent is wanted by Everton according to TEAMtalk.

That’s quite a turn of events for Castro, who seemed like a strange link to Rangers at the time but could end up in British football after all.
