A Scottish Sun report has given an update on the status of the 2020/21 Scottish League Cup after it became clear that it would not be able to start on schedule.
The competition had been due to kick off with the group stages on 11 July but 1 August is the suggested date for the resumption of professional action, with even that date provisional [BBC Sport].

It’s suggested that League One and Two clubs – who would be involved in the early stages of the League Cup – may not be able to resume playing until October.
Yet, the Scottish Sun claims that despite a potential delay of several months, the competition doesn’t yet face being scrapped.
It’s asserted that after urgent talks with SPFL Chief Executive Neil Doncaster, Premier Sports – the broadcasting rights holders for the competition – are prepared to take a flexible approach and to discuss alternative dates as well as a potential streamlining of the competition.

As one of three pieces of major silverware up for grabs in a regular season, Rangers would likely push for the competition to go ahead in whatever form possible.
Steven Gerrard has come close to success in the League Cup in each of the last two years.
In October 2018 he saw his side knocked out by a late Lewis Ferguson winner for Aberdeen in the semi-final, while in December 2019, the Gers dominated Celtic at a sodden Hampden but fell to a 1-0 defeat courtesy of a Christopher Jullien goal which should have been flagged offside.
