The referee has been confirmed for Rangers’ clash with Aberdeen at Ibrox on Wednesday evening.

The Gers come into the game with a three-point lead at the top of the Premiership table following a comeback win at St Mirren on Sunday.

Aberdeen are struggling down in eighth and have a lot of injuries to deal with but they did pull off a rare victory at the weekend over Hibernian.

The Dons only managed one goal in four meetings with the Gers last season, with both Ibrox fixtures finishing 4-0 to the hosts.

They’ve had success in Glasgow against Steven Gerrard’s side in the past, though, and shouldn’t be underestimated.

The man set to be in charge of proceedings is John Beaton [Scottishfa.co.uk].

The 39-year-old has officiated Rangers matches on 32 previous occasions, with the Gers winning 22, drawing three and losing seven.

Across the 32 matches, he’s shown just one red card to a Rangers player and six to opposition players, while the Light Blues have been awarded six penalties and have only seen one given against them.

Beaton’s assistant referees will be Alan Mulvanny and Ralph Gordon, while Andrew Dallas is on fourth official duty.

In other news, a player who left Ibrox in the summer has had surgery after picking up a bad injury at the weekend.
