Speaking on talkSPORT, ex Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said he believes Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos would be a big hit with his former club.

Redknapp, whose is known for his penchant for a Deadline Day signing, was guesting on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show.

With Spurs talisman Harry Kane ruled out for an extended period due to bad hamstring injury, the panel discussed potential replacements Jose Mourinho could sign this month.

Celtic-leaning host, Brazil, proceeded to bring Morelos up as a candidate, by disrespectfully referring to him as a ‘screwball.’

“What about the screwball at Rangers,” he asked, as quoted by talkSPORT.com. “Are you having him?”

Perhaps to Brazil’s dismay, Redknapp said yes.

“I would take him, yeah. I’d have a go [at signing him], asserted the 72-year-old, who managed Tottenham from 2008 to 2012. “He is right up my street.”

“I’ll have him, I’d love him! He could come and set the place alight, couldn’t he.”

Verdict

Clearly, it’s a little easier to make assertions such as this if you are on the radio and not actually in charge of a big Premier League club’s transfer budget.

What it does show, though, is that despite the best efforts of detractors such as Brazil, Morelos’ exploits this season have made a real impression south of the border.

It’s impossible to say exactly how well El Bufalo would fare if he headed for the English top flight.

Yet, what Rangers fans do know, is that the 23-year-old has been prolific both in domestic and European competition so far this season.

To have 28 goals before the winter break is a remarkable achievement, and one suspects that if you threw him into an ailing Spurs team in the absence of Kane, he would only have a positive effect.

However, Rangers have battened down the hatches and will not be offloading their star man this winter. The quest for a 55th top-flight title is far more important than helping a London club through an injury crisis.
