Red card happy referee controversially named for Rangers v Celtic clash

SPFL referee Bobby Madden will take charge of Rangers’ crunch upcoming Old Firm clash with Celtic as the Gers look to turn the screw in the title race [SFA].

The Ibrox club are set to face off against their Parkhead rivals in Govan on January 2nd with the Gers hoping to stretch their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Both sides have three league games apiece to play before the tie but should things remain as they are Rangers can go 19 points clear with a victory against their fierce rivals.

It will be the first time Madden has taken charge of an Old Firm game since Celtic’s 2-0 victory at Ibrox last season, where he also sent of Jordan Jones.

The match before this was another Celtic victory, the 3-2 match at Parkhead from March 2019 where Madden flashed a red card to Alfredo Morelos for clashing with Scott Brown.

Incredibly, Madden is regarded as an anti-Celtic referee by our friends across the city despite the fact his last two matches have seen two red cards for Rangers players.

This means the pressure is already going to be on the whistler – widely regarded to be the best in the country – as he oversees a potentially season-defining clash between the two sides.

Before Rangers face off against Celtic they will have to contend with matches against St. Johnstone, Hibs and St. Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

Here’s how we’re tipping the Gers to line-up against St. Johnstone in Perth as they look to extend their run of league wins to 12 straight games.
