Rating all twelve of Rangers 2024 signings out of ten: only one 9/10 in Ibrox squad

Rangers are looking ahead to the January transfer window and Nils Koppen’s third period in charge of the Ibrox club’s recruitment.

Having moved to Rangers in the January of 2024, both Koppen and Philippe Clement have overseen two transfer windows at Rangers, both of which came this year.

Rangers have made no fewer than 12 new signings in the year of 2024 and as the curtain comes down on a challenging 12 months at Ibrox, we rate how they performed.

Fabio Silva

Fabio Silva was the first signing of the Philippe Clement era when he joined on loan from Premier League Wolves.

Injuries in the wide areas impacted Silva’s spell, with the Portuguese forward being forced out wide instead of getting opportunities in the striker berth as had been previously planned.

Blew hot and cold at Rangers and never had the desired impact as the club blew their chance to go on and lift the Scottish Premiership title.

Silva is now tearing it up with Las Palmas in Spain.

Mohamed Diomande

Rangers held off stiff competition to sign a £4.3m loan-to-buy deal for FC Nordjsaelland midfielder Mohamed Diomande in January.

Highly-rated across football and viewed as a player with high potential, Diomande really became the poster boy of Rangers’ revamped approach to player trading.

There have been some disappointing performances where the midfielder has struggled to impose himself on games but Dio is a player of clear technical ability.

Has grown into his role at Rangers and is now a big game player for the club.

Oscar Cortes

Oscar Cortes initially showed promise when Rangers signed the young Colombian on loan from RC Lens in January.

But after suffering a devastating injury at Rugby Park and going through a subsequent surgery, the now 21-year-old has struggled to find fitness ever since.

Rangers controversially signed a £4m loan-to-buy deal for Cortes in the summer but so far this season injury has devastated the winger’s campaign.

Now back in the Rangers squad, the jury very much remains out.

Jefte

Rangers tried to sign Brazilian left-back Jefte in the January transfer window but had to wait to the summer to complete the deal.

Moving to Rangers after his contract expired with Fluminense in Brazil, Jefte has been one of the signings of the season so far.

After a rocky start the 20-year-old left-back has grown into his role at Rangers and is a talented wing-back who plays with head up and always gives 100%.

We’re big fans.

Clinton Nsiala

Rangers signed a deal to bring Clinton Nsiala to Ibrox following the completion of his contract at Serie A giants AC Milan.

Philippe Clement was clear the 20-year-old Frenchman was signed with the future in mind and Nsiala has been limited to B team appearances thus far.

Connor Barron

Rangers are still locked in tribunal discussions with Aberdeen surrounding the transfer of Connor Barron in the summer.

The 22-year-old joined the Gers at the end of his Dons contract and has made a big impact on the Rangers midfield this season.

There are still things the Scotland hopeful needs to work on but Barron’s energetic and progressive performances have earned him plenty of fans at Rangers.

Vaclav Cerny

Czech winger Vaclav Cerny initially struggled with the weight of expectation at Ibrox and fluffed a lot of early chances in a Rangers jersey.

But since dusting himself off the Wolfsburg loanee has grown into a crucial player in the Rangers team and a genuine match winner.

A top quality option who can score from all the pitch, the Rangers Robben has overcome a rocky start to become an Ibrox revelation.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo

Dutch U21 defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo was beginning to find his feet in Glasgow before injury cut the Feyenoord loanee down.

After undergoing surgery, Kasanwirjo is back in the Netherlands and Rangers will be without the centre-back for the duration of his treatment.

There are murmurs the club could return in the summer, with Kasanwirjo a versatile defender who can play across the back four and even step into midfield.

Robin Propper

It’s fair to say Robin Propper has struggled at times since moving to Rangers.

The 31-year-old Dutch defender arrived in Glasgow to much hype after captaining FC Twente to the Champions League qualifiers last season.

But by his own admission Propper has struggled with the pace of life in Scotland and is still trying to get his head around what it means to be at Rangers.

Has performed better in Europe than he has domestically.

Hamza Igamane

Rangers fans have a new hero in Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane who is already winning plenty of supporters at Ibrox.

The 22-year-old striker took his time to get used to his surroundings in Glasgow but over the last few weeks the hitman has hit top form.

Looks an absolute steal at £1.7m from FAR Rabat and Rangers will expect to bank big money on the striker in the years to come.

Nedim Bajrami

Nedim Bajrami is certainly a technical player and at times in his Rangers journey, the Albanian international has showcased it at Ibrox.

But the ex-Sassuolo playmaker has also been guilty of inconsistency although that’s not been helped by Bajrami’s presence out on the left wing.

Also at risk of being overused between Rangers and Albania, it’s been a solid start but we expect more from the 25-year-old.
