The 19-year-old had been waiting patiently for a league start and he grabbed his opportunity against the Edinburgh club at Ibrox.

He defended stoutly when called upon and assisted the Kemar Roofe goal that started Rangers’ comeback with a pinpoint cross from the right.

Meanwhile, O’Halloran was named on the right wing in the select XI, after a very impressive individual display for St Johnstone in a 3-1 win over Dundee at McDiarmid Park on Saturday.

The 30-year-old speedster set up the Saints’ first and third goals with crosses to register his first two assists of the season.

Only four other Premiership players made the XI, with Hearts’ Craig Gordon in goal, Dundee United’s Scott McMann at centre-back, St Mirren’s Alan Power in centre midfield and Jota of Celtic on the left wing.

The remaining spots went to Partick Thistle’s Tunji Akinola, Peterhead’s Josh Mulligan, Stirling Albion’s Nathan Flanagan, Hamilton Accies’ Andy Ryan and Rory McAllister of Cove Rangers, who was named Star Man of the Week after bagging a hat-trick against Alloa Athletic in League One.

Rangers Academy graduate Patterson’s inclusion was well deserved and he’ll be hoping to feature for Scotland in the coming days in their important World Cup qualifiers against Israel and the Faroe Islands.

In other news, the SFA are set to make a significant change in a ‘direct response’ to a Rangers player incident.
