A Rangers U19 squad is in Stuttgart, Germany preparing to face off against the likes of RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt in the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup, according to Rangers.co.uk.

The Gers and the two German clubs will be joined by Rapid Vienna in Group A, while the likes of Manchester United and Porto are in Group B.

The six-a-side tournament is played in the futuristic-looking Glaspalast, which has a capacity of 5000 and is a great chance for some of the Academy’s most talented youngsters to test themselves against elite European opposition.

It’s not the first time the club have entered this competition, having reached the semi-final stages last season.

Among those involved for the Gers are Ciaran Dickson, Nathan Young-Coombes and the highly-rated Leon King.

Those interested in watching the fixtures will be able to do so via links on the Official Rangers Facebook page and the Rangers Youth Academy Twitter account.

Here are the Gers’ opening day fixtures in UK time:

Rangers vs Rapid Vienna – k.o 12:09

Rangers vs Eintracht Frankfurt – 13:28

Rangers vs RB Leipzig – 15:13

These are the first youth fixtures of 2020 and the Academy will be hoping to build on what was a silverware-laden 2019.

The ultimate goal is to prepare players for the demands of first-team football at Ibrox, and the theory is that the more exposure talented youngsters get against quality opposition in front of healthy crowds, the more likely they will be to make it.
