As the Rangers men’s team struggled to a 2-2 draw to St. Johnstone in Perth to all but end their Scottish Premiership title hopes, spare a thought for the women’s team.
The Rangers Women were in action in their first league game of the season as a revamped side hope to make a big impression in the Scottish Women’s Premier League this campaign.
They got off to a flyer as a Megan Bell double and another goal from Kirsten Reilly secured the points on the opening day of the league season.
The Rangers Women, now managed by former player Gregory Vignal and Malky Thomson, are clearly benefitting from increased investment into the side.
Rangers became the first club in Scotland to fully integrate the women’s side into the club’s footballing department [Rangers].
The decision meant the female side could sign professional players and train at the Rangers Training Centre, proceeding to overhaul the playing staff and build a team capable of competing for trophies.
Signings have included the likes of Scotland International Nicola Docherty, Indian international Bala Devi and footballers from across Europe and even South America.

Northern Ireland international Megan Bell hit a double on her debut, with summer signing from Hibs Kirsten Reilly also got an introductory goal.
The success of the Rangers Women’s side is in stark contrast to that of the Men’s, who fell 12 points adrift of Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
