Rangers winger Jones still paying price for senseless September act

Summer arrival Jordan Jones enjoyed a positive start to life in a Rangers shirt.

By the end of August, he had already racked up nine competitive appearances for the Gers and although still without his first goal, he’d shown plenty of promise.

Away in Midtjylland during Europa League qualifying, for example, he brought a major threat on the counter-attack through his pace and trickery.

However, on his tenth appearance in Light Blue, a senseless act would put him back to square one.

Substituted into September’s Old Firm clash after 70 minutes, the wide man found himself unable to influence proceedings and after Jonny Hayes scored a second for the Hoops, he lost his cool.

Lunging into a wild challenge on Moritz Bauer, he earned himself a red card and picked up a knee injury.

The senseless challenge showed a naivety in the pressure cooker Old Firm atmosphere.

Jones hasn’t featured since then, missing a total of seven Gers matches, as well as four Northern Ireland fixtures, two of which, were huge Euro 2020 Qualifiers.

With preparations building for Rangers’ trip to Hearts on Friday, Ryan Kent was spotted back in training [Rangers.co.uk]. Yet, Jones was nowhere to be seen and his progress wasn’t touched upon by Gerrard in the presser.

The ex-Killie man is still paying for losing his cool against Celtic and looks likely to be watching from the sidelines for a while yet.
