Rangers summer signing Brandon Barker has spoken out about his decision to sign for Rangers, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

The 22-year-old was something of a left-field addition to the Gers squad this summer.

Despite having already signed Jordan Jones, Sheyi Ojo and Jake Hastie to play out wide, and with a move for Ryan Kent still in the pipeline, Gerrard brought in Barker from Manchester City on a three-year deal.

Rangers winger Barker claims Ibrox was the only place for him

“I had quite a few options down south,” claimed Barker, as quoted by the Scottish Sun. “I had like three or four teams in the Championship but none of them was really in my heart.”

“I think Rangers then got in contact and then within a day it was all done. I think that tells you how eager I was to sign and how quickly I said yes to the opportunity.

“When you get a level of Rangers come in, it’s always a lot better to call this place your home. The excitement of becoming better and competing for things… it was a no-brainer really.”

Verdict

The jury is still out in terms of what exactly Barker will offer as a Rangers player.

He introduced himself in fine style with a superbly-taken goal against Livingston earlier this month, but he struggled to get into yesterday’s game at St Johnstone, after being handed a start.

However, as far as Bears are concerned, being committed to the cause is half the battle. With that in mind, Barker’s comments should go down well.

The youngster is clearly excited by the opportunities on offer at Rangers and he’ll be doubly keen to impress over the coming weeks, with Ryan Kent still sidelined through a hamstring injury.
