Rangers willing to pay £2m but Ibrox move ‘not imminent’ for target

Patience is a virtue in Rangers’ pursuit of Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo with a move to Ibrox not through to be ‘imminent’.

At least, that is according to The Herald. The very same publication which broke the news surrounding Sam Lammers’ £3 million move to Rangers from Atalanta earlier this month.

Lammers became Rangers’ fourth signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling and former Manchester United goalkeeper Jack Butland.

The wait for ‘number five’, however, is proving to be a frustrating one. Cyriel Dessers appears to be leaning towards staying in Serie A. Jose Cifuentes’ future is unlikely to be sorted out until next month.

And, The Herald add, Panzo will not be arriving in Glasgow imminently either. Rangers, it seems, still have a long way to go in pursuit of a stylish, left-footed centre-half who would replace the departing Filip Helander in Mick Beale’s defensive ranks.

Rangers still chasing Nottingham Forest’s Jonathan Panzo

According to the Daily Record, Rangers are willing to stump up £2 million for Panzo. They will face competition from West Brom. Coventry City may also look to bring Panzo back to the Midlands after he shone on loan at the beaten play-off finalists.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, could opt to keep the former Chelsea and Monaco man around for next term, especially after both Scott McKenne and Moussa Niakhate suffered injury-hit campaigns. Alessandro Buongiorno, the Italy international who could have been Panzo’s City Ground replacement, is also now in talks over a new deal at Torino.

Buongiorno, funnily enough, could be team-mates with Dessers next term.

“Talks continue over Jonathan Panzo deal as many clubs want him,” Fabrizio Romano wrote on Twitter a few days ago. “Rangers are insisting.”

Panzo, ‘outstanding’ at Coventry, would give Beale the balance he needs on the left-hand side as the Rangers boss looks to perfect his possession-heavy, fluid gameplan at Ibrox.
