Rangers will “probably” sign Swiss forward Cedric Itten from Swiss Super League runners up St. Gallen, according to reports in his homeland.
Tagblatt are claiming that Itten will “probably” move to Rangers as Steven Gerrard follows up on his ambitions to add more firepower to the squad.
The 23-year-old striker was the second top scorer in the Swiss topflight with 19 goals last season, also laying on six assists.
The striker ended up 13 goals behind Cameroon striker Jean-Pierre Nsame, whose record-breaking 32 strikes were also said to interesting Rangers.
This was eventually rebuffed by Steven Gerrard himself [Herald].
The links to Itten also come after St. Gallen president Matthias Huppi admitted the player will leave in this window, interestingly to the same newspaper.
The Swiss club’s top man also suggested Itten had only to agree personal terms with a certain club.
“Cedric Itten will leave us,” said Huppi [Tagblatt].
“As long as there is no signature (on the contract), we cannot reveal anything yet (about his destination). It is only certain that he will not play for FC St.Gallen next season.”
Itten has three goals in two caps for Switzerland, is known to be a powerful forward who can use both feet and is very useful in the air.
The reported move for Itten also comes after Rangers officially announced the signing of Kemar Roofe, who joins for an undisclosed fee on a four-year contract from Anderlecht.
