Rangers hotly anticipated first friendly match of the season at Ibrox against Motherwell has been delayed by two hours to 8pm.
This is because of a delay in the outcome of essential COVID-19 testing, with both clubs being told they “will receive them prior to kick-off”.
Motherwell took to Twitter to break the news after Rangers fans began to get suspicious of a delay due to the fact a starting XI had not yet been released.
Rangers have since made a similar announcement on their official Twitter page.
It’s a small delay and the Ibrox faithful will be hoping things will no go ahead as planned with an expectant support awaiting the kick-off at 6pm.
The match is also being covered live by RangersTV for season-ticket holders and Premier Sports for non-season-ticket holders.
The decision to release this news 15 minutes before kick-off could leave a few disgruntled fans but supporters will sympathise with the necessity of coronavirus testing.
During the global pandemic player safety is paramount and the two clubs, whilst frustrated, will be forced to wait for a thumbs up before they can kick-off.
A Rangers XI has already played today, with a B team full of youth talents and fringe stars crashing to a 4-1 defeat against Dundee United’s first team.
