Rangers v Dundee gets the go ahead – where and when confirmed after pitch inspection

Ahh the famous Dundee pitch, the only one, seemingly, in Tayside affected by climate change with Rangers hoping it is third time lucky, or maybe not.

Gers boss Philippe Clement has been far from happy with the recent interruptions but now knows that this game is going ahead, one way or another.

It would have been nice to get it moved to Ibrox for obvious reasons, however, after a pitch inspection this morning, we now know where Rangers will be playing Dundee.

Rangers v Dundee gets go ahead, but where?

Yesterday afternoon, statements were released by Rangers, Dundee and St Johnstone.

They clarified what the options were and that Dens Park remained the most likely venue for the twice rearranged fixture.

Despite the conspiracy theories and nonsense from Jim White, there were no other dates when the games could have been played due to the state of the pitch.

Posting on X, Rangers claified what the situation was going be one day ahead of schedule:

Should the pitch at Dens Park again be deemed unplayable or likely to be unplayable, the game will be moved to McDiarmid Park, Perth, with an 8pm kick-off on Wednesday, April, 17.

“Following strong representations from Rangers, supporters who have tickets for Dens Park will be able to attend the game at McDiarmid Park, should it move.”

Rangers v Dundee, third time lucky

The issue was, rain was expected to fall again over the next couple of days – that dreaded climate change again – so there was every chance that the pitch was going to deteriorate – again.

As Don Robertson said after the last postponement, for this game, it has been different areas of the park that have caused concern, it’s not the same area every time.

The only good thing is that Rangers training schedule hasn’t been affected knowing that the game was always going to be played on Wednesday night at 8pm, which gives Philippe Clement plenty of time to rectify some of the many issues from Sunday’s disaster against Ross County.

Where do you start when the defence, midfield and forward line all have problems though?

The good thing is, the squad has a quick chance to redeem themselves.

Fans that have tickets for the game now know where it will be played after the latest announcement was made with the game confirmed for the Scot Foam Stadium, Dundee with an 8pm kick-off.

It doesn’t matter where it is played, Rangers need to win, it’s as simple as that.

Given the nature of the split, a lot can happen in the remaining five games against teams from the top half of the table.

If Tynecastle is a tough place for us to go to, so too is Rugby Park for Celtic.

If either team goes through the five games unbeaten, especially if they win every game, then they deserve the title, it’s as simple as that.
