Rangers U16s side put in a superb performance today to defeat the riches of Manchester City 3-2.
The Young Gers are at the Istria Youth cup in Croatia and will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Benfica, Dinamo Zagreb and Barcelona. Not the worst company I’m sure you’ll agree.
Today, they faced off against one of the richest clubs in the world and certainly didn’t look out of place.
The U16s put City to the sword with goals from McCausland, King and Lyall.

Testament to creative academy work at club
Just getting Rangers to the tournament is testament to the work being done by the Academy behind the scenes. Getting a win is testament to the fact they’re doing things right.
Rangers entire Academy all the way up to U20s level has gone through a reshuffle. Last season the club took the youngsters out of the Development League and threw them into a selection of tough games against some of the continent’s top youth teams.
It has paid off massively with some pretty special results for the U20s. The most striking of which was either a victory against Bayern Munich or the dismantling of Hamburg.
Now, at Rangers U16s level the club has a result which could yet be the catalyst for a pretty special tournament.
The progressive ideas behind the development of our youngster are a credit to the staff.
We have always had the facilities and now we are building an academy which justifies it.
It’s an exciting time for the Rangers youth sides. Watch this space.
