Rangers trio walking a suspension tightrope ahead of Red Star Europa League tie

Rangers trio John Lundstram, Alfredo Morelos and Fashion Sakala are all walking a Europa League suspension tightrope ahead of the clash against Red Star Belgrade.

If any of the trio gets booked at Ibrox, then they will miss the away leg in what could be a crucial match.

There is a silver lining, however, as there are five Red Star players who are facing a ban if booked on Thursday evening.

Aleksandar Katai, Mirko Ivanic, Nenad Krsticic, Slavoljub Srnic, and Milan Pavkov will all have to be extremely careful during the clash and this is something that the Ibrox side could exploit during the 90 minutes.

Rangers trio face Europa League suspension threat

Both Katai and Ivanic are key players for the Serbian side and nullifying their threat will be key if Rangers harbour any aspirations for progression.

It may be tempting to lure the players into easy fouls, and this can increase the chances of a caution which will make the return leg slightly easier.

Katai has scored 23 times this season, whilst Ivanic has netted 15 times and these two are arguably the two dangermen the Gers will need to be wary of.

If the club can see off the challenge of Red Star and progress to the quarter-finals for the first time since 2008, the suspension threat will still carry forward. It isn’t until the last four that all cautions are wiped clean, and the players are on a fresh slate.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will surely be telling the players to focus on their own game and not get involved in any antics from the Red Star Belgrade players. If we are to progress, then the side will need every player available, especially with a crucial run of fixtures ahead.

Meanwhile, Rangers B confirm a new date for historic Ibrox Old Firm clash which was postponed earlier in the season.
