Rangers trio James Tavernier, Ryan Kent and Kemar Roofe would all flourish in Serie A if given the chance, according to a former Italian Gers star.
Ex-Ibrox striker Marco Negri believes that all three players would run rampant in the Italian top tier if given the chance and admitted his surprise there hasn’t been any interest in the players.
Negri, who suggested Serie A side Udinese sign Colombian firebrand Alfredo Morelos, revealed that the nation’s perception of the Scottish game might’ve warned them off a move.
“It’s not a secret that I recommended Udinese buy Alfredo Morelos when I was on Massimo Oddo’s coaching staff a couple of years ago,” said Negri [Daily Record].
“He was still very young, but I told them he was a natural goalscorer and he would only improve. Nothing came of it though and I am glad he stayed at Rangers given how they are playing now!
“Rangers now have players who would be really good and make an impact in Serie A. Kemar Roofe is an excellent striker, Ryan Kent is an exciting, technical winger.
“And their full back James Tavernier can’t stop scoring goals.
“In Italy, we think of Scottish football as this awful physical league with high balls and lots of elbows.
“But it’s undervalued and there are teams there who play some great football. There are very interesting players and young players of value.”
Negri’s comments come with Rangers top of the Scottish Premiership and making it to the last 32 of the Europa League, going unbeaten in the group stages and topping their group.
This has seen the stock of many Rangers players rise with outgoing chairman Dave King even suggesting the club’s squad could be worth towards £200m [STV].
But they certainly didn’t prove it in a recent League Cup battle with St. Mirren, the mentality of the Gers brought into question after another domestic trophy slipped by the wayside.
