Newcastle United are interested in signing Rangers midfielder Calum Adamson in the summer transfer window and so are Crystal Palace, according to a report.

Calum Adamson to stay at Rangers amid Newcastle and Crystal Palace interest

The Daily Record have reported that Premier League duo Newcastle and Crystal Palace have made approach for Rangers youngster Adamson.

However, the midfielder has turned down the chance to go to Newcastle or Palace.

According to The Daily Record, the youngster has decided that he is better off staying at Rangers and will sign a two-year professional contract with the Scottish Premiership club starting this summer.

Rangers academy chief Craig Mulholland reportedly played a role in the decision of Adamson to stay put at Ibrox.

View: Sensible decision

In our view, Calum Adamson has made the right decision to stay at Rangers and not move to Newcastle United or Crystal Palace.

Yes, Newcastle and Palace are big and established clubs in the Premier League, but the young midfielder would have found it tough to break into the first team at St. James’ Park or at Selhurst Park.

Rangers do give chances to their best and brightest prospects coming through the academy.

And if Adamson continues to progress and develop his game, then the teenager could break into the Rangers first team under manager Michael Beale sooner rather than later.
