Kenny Miller has said that Jack Butland would be a good signing for Rangers and believes that manger Michael Beale is about to make a wonderful transfer decision.
The former Rangers striker has noted in The Daily Record the attributes of Butland that would make him perfect for Rangers.
The Scottish Sun reported last month that Rangers are keen on signing Butland in the summer transfer window.
The 30-year-old English goalkeeper is on loan at Manchester United from Crystal Palace at the end of the season.
Butland is out of contract at his parent club Palace in the summer of 2023.
So, Rangers would be able to sign the goalkeeper on a free transfer, and they are reportedly closing in on a deal.
Allan McGregor is the number one goalkeeper at Rangers at the moment, but the Scotsman is out of contract at the Gers at the end of the season.
Jack Butland backed for Rangers success if he joins the Gers
Miller wrote: “To come after McGregor, you need to have a name, a reputation, a presence. Because make no mistake, when he goes there will be a massive hole to fill in that Ibrox dressing-room.
“A big character has to come in and Butland fits the bill. He’s at a good age – he’s 30 years old – and you don’t get nine England caps if you’re not a top player. To compete in that sort of company, you must have real ability.

“If you’re Connor Goldson or James Tavernier, who will be at Rangers next season having played in front of McGregor for years, you need someone to come in of similar stature. Butland ticks that box.
“Even the fact he’s at Old Trafford just now, that tells me he has the mentality to be at a huge club. He isn’t playing games but he’s David de Gea’s deputy.
“United feel comfortable that if anything happens to de Gea, they can trust Butland to step up. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be there.”
Excellent
In our view, Jack Butland would be a very good signing for Rangers, especially as he would come on a free transfer.
Butland is one of the best goalkeepers around, and, as Miller has noted, that Manchester United thought to bring in him as a back-up to David de Gea shows how highly he is rated in the footballing community.
And he is only 30 years of age now.
While McGregor is a very good goalkeeper, he is 41 now, and Rangers simply cannot rely on him.
Butland is hugely experienced, having turned out for the likes of Birmingham City, Stoke City and Leeds United among other clubs.
