Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo has been linked with a move away from Ibrox despite joining the Gers only last summer.

According to The Scottish Daily Mail, Matondo could leave Rangers at the end of the season.

Rabbi Matondo linked with Rangers exit

Journalist Stephen McGowan has suggested that Rangers manager Michael Beale could envisage a situation in which the former Manchester City prospect waves farewell to Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

The Wales international winger moved to Rangers from Schalke 04 on a four-year deal in the summer of 2022.

McGowan wrote (The Scottish Daily Mail, print edition, page 118, April 29, 2023): “The Rangers manager is shuffling through the final weeks of the season, trying to hold his balance.

“He can see next season looming tantalisingly in the distance. And right now he can’t get there fast enough. When he closes his eyes, he sees Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor and Rabbi Matondo waving farewell.”

View: Keep faith for another season

In our view, Rangers should not sell Rabbi Matondo in the summer transfer window.

Yes, the winger is having a tough time at Rangers now, but he is only 22 years of age.

You can write off such a young player after just one season.

Beale has publicly said that Matondo is struggling with lack of confidence.

Maybe after a full pre-season with Beale, the Wales international winger could be ready to take the Scottish Premiership by story.

Described as “incredibly fast” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in Goal in January 2019, Matondo has made six starts and nine substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers this season.

The winger also made five substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League and played once in the Scottish League Cup for the Gers this season.
