Rangers are tracking talented Dutch right-back Jed Abbey after his release from Wolves, according to a report.
Sports World Ghana are claiming that Steven Gerrard’s side are considering a move for the 18-year-old after his contract expired at Molineux.
The interest reportedly comes after interest in Dennis Gymalfi of Leicester City cooled with Gymalfi in Belgium to train with Cercle Brugge.
Abbey impressed in the U-18 Premier League last season, registering four goals and five assists despite predominantly playing at right-back.
The youngster also managed to score an additional goal in two FA Youth Cup matches [Transfermarkt].
Abbey – who can also play for the Ghanaian national team – can also play in midfield and would provide a versatile and youthful option for the Ibrox side.
Rangers have already moved to sign a young full-back from a Premier League club after his contract expired in the shape of Calvin Bassey.
The exciting 20-year-old left-back joined the Gers to provide back-up to Borna Barisic and has already begun to settle into life at Rangers.
Sports World Ghana are the only outlet so far reporting the interest in Abbey but given the player’s roots in the African nation they may well have some insider knowledge about a potential swoop.
Rangers have made six signings in total this season, bringing Ianis Hagi, Calvin Bassey, Jon McLaughlin, Leon Balogun, Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten to the club.
Teenage Blackpool striker Tony Weston and promising Northern Irish youth international Charlie Lindsay have also joined the club.
