Rangers are looking to secure a move for Daniel Johnson this week with the midfielder eager to secure a move to Glasgow, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun are claiming that Steven Gerrard wants to get the Jamaican midfielder, 27, onboard at Ibrox ahead of the team’s trip to Motherwell this weekend.

That report believes that there are “issues still be resolved” with a potential £3m which would come despite the player only having a year remaining on his contract.

The Sun believes that Johnson has told Preston he wants to move on from the club with the player “keen” on a switch to Ibrox from Deepdale.

The report also comes despite Preston boss Alex Neil claiming that Johnson was left out of the club’s 2-2 weekend draw with Norwich due to a groin injury.

“Daniel Johnson wasn’t available [on Saturday], he picked up a slight groin injury yesterday and he would’ve probably started,” said Neil, as quoted by the Glasgow Times.

“I doubt he will be fit for Wednesday because having to turn that groin strain around in two or three days, you are cutting it fine.”

Those comments suggest the midfielder would be available for a match at the weekend but it remains to be seen if that will be at Fir Park with Rangers or Deepdale against Stoke City with Preston.

Midfielder Johnson was Preston’s Player of the Year last season, playing 33 Championship games, scoring 12 goals and laying on eight assists.
