Rangers want to tie Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos down a new contract until 2026, according to Turkish transfer journalist Ekrem Konur.

Konur has built himself quite the following on the likes of Twitter (164k) with his apparently exclusive transfer stories in the style of Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.

And now he’s claiming that Rangers want to offer Alfredo Morelos a new contract with his current deal set to expire come the end of next season.

Morelos’ current deal puts the Gers in a difficult situation when it comes to the 25-year-old who would then likely need to be moved on in the summer to avoid losing him for nothing in 2023.

A vital part of how this Rangers team plays, Alfredo Morelos’ importance has been highlighted in recent weeks amid a string of top performances since Giovanni van Bronckhorst came into the club.

Scoring nine goals since the Dutchman and his coaching staff – which includes Spanish speaking Dutch striker coach Roy Makaay – replaced Steven Gerrard and co, the Colombian was even singled out by key Borussia Dortmund personnel as being the Ibrox club’s dangerman.

Ekrem Konur: Rangers want Alfredo Morelos until 2026

It’s on the European stage that Alfredo Morelos has shined brightest for Rangers – the Colombian is the club’s all-time European top scorer (27) – and we wouldn’t bet against him coming up big again in the Europa League clash with the Germans.

But beyond that game and this season there is a conversation to be had about Morelos’ future and according to Ekrem Konur, Rangers want it to be at Ibrox.

If the claim is true, Rangers would be looking to secure Alfredo Morelos for another four seasons, taking him to his 29th birthday.

For a player who has made no bones about his ambitions to play in the Premier League, this might be a couple of years of commitment too far but Morelos is undoubtedly at a crossroads with Rangers.

Let’s hope he opts to charge on ahead instead of changing direction with the striker adored by the Ibrox faithful.

Alfredo Morelos joined from HJK Helsinki on a £1m deal in 2017 has gone on to score 110 goals and lay on 48 assists in 214 games for the club.

Meanwhile, the attitude of one leading Rangers star caught the eye after swapping glitz and glamour for a rain-soaked night at Galabank.
