BBC Scotland reports that Rangers are to be consulted imminently as the SPFL attempts to form a strategy for how to handle titles, promotions and relegations if the 2020/21 season is curtailed.
There is no suggestion at this stage that the current campaign is under immediate threat, but following a number of postponements, planning is being stepped up in a bid to avoid the controversy that surrounded the 2019/20 season.
Kilmarnock and St Mirren are the two Premiership clubs that have been worst affected by positive cases, with both seeing fixtures against Motherwell postponed in recent weeks due to a lack of available first-team players.
Rangers were involved in a meeting of all 42 members on Monday morning and the SPFL are now set to reach out to clubs individually in an attempt to formulate contingency plans.
Each club will be asked to provide responses to a number of questions, although BBC Scotland reports that a formal ballot will only take place if there is a ‘consensus of similar opinion’.

Almost a third of the way into the season, Rangers are yet to be affected by Covid-related problems.
No Gers player has yet returned a positive test and none of the club’s fixtures have been impacted by opposition players contracting the virus.
However, that hasn’t been the case for some other clubs in the top-flight and with the other three SPFL leagues getting underway at the weekend, it makes sense for clubs to be consulted and for contingency plans to be made.
The ending of the 2019/20 season turned into an embarrassing fiasco for Scottish football and if the worst-case scenario comes to pass again, the authorities must do better.
However, all involved in the Scottish game retain the hope that the current campaign will be played to its conclusion.
