Rangers hunt for a new manager appears to be heading into the final straight with the news that Pascal Jansen and Kjetil Knutsen are to be spoken to about the vacant position.

This adds the pair to Frank Lampard, Phillipe Clement and Kevin Muscat as realistic candidates and it is an improvement on some of the names that have been linked.

If Rangers are to land either Pascal Jansen or Kjetil Knutsen, they would have to get persmission off AZ Alkmaar and Bodo Glimt respectively, they would also have to pay compensation but, according to Alan Nixon of The Sun, this isn’t an issue.

Rangers to talk to Pascal Jansen and Kjetil Knutsen

Writing on Patreon, the respected journalist who specialises in transfer stories and manager speculation, Nixon has claimed that both prospective targets would consider the move across the North Sea.

“Rangers will speak to AZ Alkmaar coach Pascal Jansen and Norwegian Kjetil Knutsen before picking their next boss.

“Jansen has done impressive work in Holland and is keen on the post as he looks to come to Britain.

“And Knutsen has excelled with Bodo Glimt and would also move to the Scottish giants if he gets the nod.”

Rangers still represents a step up for managers like Pascal Jansen and Kjetil Knutsen.

The latter has been mentioned by fans but this is the first time his name has been seriously reported as a contender, this time around anyway, after tentative links last year.

More consistent European football, a bigger wage budget and a 50,000 seater stadium packed every other week.

If they do well with us, the Premier League door well and truly opens as well as others on the continent.

Both managers are well respected and, at least, show more imagination that Billy Davies or Derek McInnes.

At least we know that both of them can hand out beatings to teams like Celtic and Dundee United.

It would be a start.
