According to former Rangers winger Neil McCann, one of the Ibrox club’s current crop of wide men is fast becoming the club’s talisman.
Ryan Kent has emerged as the Gers’ main man this season with swashbuckling displays terrifying defenders everywhere from Pittodrie to Hamilton and everywhere in between.
The biggest criticism levelled at Kent – who at 23 is ready to take the next stage in his development – is that he never quite done it enough against the smaller teams.
A big-game player who has routinely been a thorn in the side of the likes of Celtic, against the other sides in the league consistent Kent performances were too few and far between.
It’s been well established that if Rangers are to make a proper go of a title challenge this season we need the likes of Ryan Kent to score and create more.
So far this season the winger has three goals and two assists in the Scottish Premiership; Kent managed seven goals and no assists for the whole of the last campaign.
More than that there is an added directness to the player’s game which shows a more mature forward who is willing to take on greater responsibility for the team.
Rangers’ terrific talisman is also shouldering that burden of responsibility very well in the absence of Alfredo Morelos.
It’s in comparison with the Colombian striker – whose head has been turned amid interest from Lille – where Kent’s commitment to the cause shines through.
Kent has reiterated his commitment to Ibrox amid interest from Leeds United and going by his performances alone you see a player determined to make it happen for Rangers.
PFA Scotland’s Young Player of the Year for 2018/19, if Kent keeps this kind of form up he won’t only be getting recognition as the Rangers’ talisman from the likes of Neil McCann.
He’ll be getting recognition as the best player in Scotland come the end of the season too.
