On Thursday evening, Rangers announced that Nikola Katic has put pen to paper on a new contract.

The 23-year-old defenderโ€™s extension ties him to Ibrox until 2023.

Itโ€™s a surprise development, given that he only arrived on a four-year deal last summer.

Yet, itโ€™s clear that the club want to reward the Croatian for his efforts so far in Light Blue.

The centre-back has played 12 times so far this season, scoring once, away against Midtjylland in Europa League qualifying [Soccerbase]. Overall, he has a total of 41 appearances.

โ€œI feel it is really good for me and four more years here and I think that will help me to become a better player, a better person and to help the club achieve something special,โ€ Katic told Rangers.co.uk.

โ€œI think it is a really good club for a young player, with this manager, a lot of fans and a lot of good players with experience from the Premier League and other leagues in the world that will definitely help me to grow every day.

โ€œWe are in a really good position the club is growing day by day first in the league and hopefully we will keep that until the end which is they key point.โ€

Rangers fans rejoice as Katic signs extension

After arriving from Slaven Belupo in 2018, Katic almost immediately became a fan favourite due to his clear passion for the jersey and his uncompromising approach to defending.

Therefore, this news sparked jubilation amongst Bears.
